Independence Hall

Structures North Engineers participated in portions of the restoration and repairs of one of the most recognizable landmarks in the United States: Independence Hall. The current tower dates to 1828 and was designed by architect William Strickland. We worked with the project architect to design a new hidden stainless steel reinforcing system encapsulated in a wood railing system at the tower level 6 balcony that replicated the rot-damaged original.  We also calculated wind loads and then evaluated and modified the design of the new steel clock face system that backed up glass for the tower’s clock. The new clock replaced one that had been installed in 1876.
